About our Track

The main track is a 1.1 mile long motocross style track consisting of mostly sandy-loam soil featuring many jumps, turns, built up berm/bowl corners, whoops section, split section and the states ONLY under-over tunnel jump! The track is beginner friendly but also offers challenging areas for the more advanced rider. We have a 36 rider starting gate, PA system with an FM output, lots of parking, bike wash area (with water) and a covered pavilion for our office/sign up area.

Our track is watered when needed by an in ground watering system directly from one of our ponds and powered by a tractor PTO pump. We also have two trucks equipped with large water tanks to water down any dry areas during race days.

Thornwood features a small 50cc only beginner practice track to get young kids used to taking turns and learning balance without being overwhelmed with the main track.

About Us

Thornwood was created by accident, sort of. It began by a Father (Jeffrey Hopkinson) and son (Adam Hopkinson) needing a place to practice riding motocross in the early 2000’s where then teenager Adam started in the sport with some friends and riding at some local private tracks and racing locally on weekends. After taking Adam to races, Jeff then re-sparked his interest in the sport after taking nearly 30 years off from racing motocross in northern Maine with his siblings where they grew up in the late 60’s/early 70’s.

The track started with just one jump and some turns at first on an open area on their potato farm that was not used or suitable for crops. After getting bored of that said single jump (which today is the finish line) they started adding more obstacles and extending the track to what it is today. It has had many transformations over the years and still they continue to find new ideas and obstacles to incorporate into the track. Once more friends showed up and caught the attention of other riders/racers in the area they knew it was growing into something larger than they had thought.

Thornwood MX first opened in 2006 holding open practices for local motocross riders. The 2024 season will be our 18th season holding racing events. We are family owned and operated, and with the help of our track crew we put on some awesome events for families all over the north east to enjoy.

In 2011 we teamed up with Cato MX, Frozen Ocean and Motomasters to form the UpState Motocross series, now entering our 14th season we added (WNYMA) Silver Springs and Whitetail!

For 2024 we have a full season race series put together (24+ races) with great family friendly motocross facilities that will attract hundreds of racers and spectators every weekend during the race season.
